Enrolments
In determining which families will be offered care, the Centre following the request of the Commonwealth Government. The guidelines recommend that the first priority is to be given to children at risk of serious abuse or neglect. The second priority is a child of a single parent who satisfies, or both parents who satisfy activity test through paid employment. The third priority is any other child. Within the above categories, priority is also given to the following children: Children in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; and Children in families which includes a person with a disability.
Kindy Cove also aims to have a mix of ages and sex in each grouping to operate effectively in relation to staff child ratios. Ensuring the needs of all the children in a group is also taken into consideration when offering a place. The Centre also has a policy of giving priority to siblings of children already enrolled at the Centre. After all these considerations, the longest on the waiting list are the first to be offered vacancies.
Should a vacancy arise to which your child is suited (as outlined as above), the Director will contact you. If we are unable to make contact with you within a reasonable time when a suitable vacancy does arise, the vacancy will be offered to the next suitable person on the waiting list. When a family seeks to establish priority, Kindy Cove must be satisfied that the child fits into a priority category. Where this is not clear, the Centre will request documents as evidence of priority. Please appreciate that it is not possible to give an accurate indication of when a suitable vacancy is likely to arise.
The Centre has a 2 session orientation process, which welcomes children and their families to the Centre once a placement has been accepted. We recommend children attend for shorter days for the first week or two to facilitate settling in.
