Lane Cove Council is committed to being a Child Safe Council and to upholding the 10 Child Safe Standards. The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a shared responsibility at Council. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to actively contributing towards a child safe community where all children and young people are protected from harm.
As a council, we commit to:
- Creating an environment where children and young people feel safe, supported and valued.
- Proactively responding to any child safety concerns.
- Providing opportunities for children and young people to participate in decision-making processes.
- Actively promoting and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion through our actions, policies, and procedures.
- Ensuring that all staff, volunteers, and contractors working with children and young people have been appropriately vetted and trained for their roles.

The 10 Child Safe Standards
Lane Cove Council is committed to upholding the 10 Child Safe Standards outlined in the NSW Child Safe Scheme. Recommended by The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, these standards provide a framework for keeping children safe in organisations.
Child Safe Standards:
- Child safety is embedded into organisational leadership, governance and culture.
- Children participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
- Families and communities are informed and involved.
- Equity is upheld and diverse needs are taken into account.
- People working with children are suitable and supported.
- Processes to respond to complaints of child abuse are child focused.
- Staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe through continual education and training.
- Physical and online environments minimise the opportunity for abuse to occur.
- Implementation of the Child Safe Standards is continuously reviewed and improved.
- Policies and procedures document how the organisation is child safe.

Reporting child abuse and harm:
If you think a child or young person is at risk of harm from abuse or neglect, contact the Child Protection Helpline on 132 111.
Make a complaint to Council:
