Lane Cove’s new Mayor

A Mayoral Election was held at an Extraordinary Council Meeting last night, Thursday 10 October 2024. Clr Merri Southwood was elected as Mayor and Clr Bridget Kennedy was elected as Deputy Mayor. 

Both Clr Merri Southwood and Clr Bridget Kennedy have served as Councillors since January 2022. They join seven other councillors that represent the local community.

Thank you to Clr Scott Bennison who has served as a Councillor since 2008, and as Mayor of Lane Cove since September 2023. Clr Bennison previously served as Mayor in 2012, and as Deputy Mayor in 2013 and 2019.

Your Councillors

The results of the Local Government Elections held on 14 September 2024 have been announced, with the Returning Officer today formally declaring the result.

Congratulations to the nine Councillors who will be representing the Lane Cove community from 2024 – 2028:

Central Ward:

Kathy Bryla (Independent)

Bridget Kennedy (Independent)

Caleb Taylor (Independent)

East Ward:

Helena Greenwell (Independent)

David Roenfeldt (Labor)

Merri Southwood (Independent)

West Ward:

Scott Bennison (Independent)

Rochelle Flood (Greens)

Katie Little (Labor)

An Extraordinary Council meeting will be held on Thursday 10 October 2024 at 7:00pm, where the Councillors will take their Oath of Office and the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected.

Council will update its website in the coming weeks with the contact details and profiles of the newly elected Councillors.

The first Ordinary Council meeting will be held on Thursday 24 October 2024.
