Greenwich Point Wharf Update

Greenwich Point Wharf

Greenwich Point Wharf is being upgraded as part of the Safe Accessible Transport program to make public transport safe, inclusive and easy to use for all passengers, especially people with disability, older people, people with prams or luggage and people with limited mobility. The project received planning approval in July 2022.

Construction is planned to start on Monday 22 April 2024. Work will take around eight months to complete, weather permitting. During this time, the existing ferry services will not be running and access to the surrounding work area will be closed to the public.

Transport for NSW has confirmed that while the wharf is being upgraded there will be no ferry services to or from Greenwich Point Wharf and the local bus network will provide access to St Leonards and the City. The bus services will be extended into the evenings and weekends to match the existing ferry timetable while the wharf is closed.

Upcoming night work - July

With the lift pit near the wharf successfully set in place in June 2024, Transport for NSW are now ready to install the steel lift shaft which will connect the gangway to the sea wall.

To enable the steel lift shaft parts to be transported safely and installed accurately, they need to work at night when the water is calmer and there is less marine traffic.

When Transport for NSW will be working

Night work to install the steel lift shaft is expected to take place over 14 nights between Sunday 21 July and Thursday 15 August from 9:00pm to 6:00am (Weather and maritime conditions permitting).

All other construction activities will continue during standard work hours, from 7:00am to 5:00pm.

What the work involves

Sections of the steel lift shaft will be lifted into place by a crane from a barge.

Equipment used will include a barge crane, tugboat, temporary lighting and hand tools. Pedestrian and vehicle access will be maintained via Lower Serpentine Road.
