Illuminating Lane Cove with LED
Published on 31 October 2024
Council is nearing completion of our streetlight upgrade program, run in partnership with Ausgrid. All main and local road lights have been upgraded to energy efficient LED, resulting in a 64% reduction in Council’s streetlighting energy usage, a huge win for sustainability!
A small number of remaining lights situated at pedestrian crossings will be upgraded by early 2025, as crossings require brighter bulbs than other streetlights.
The upgrade program adds smart controls to the lights on roads to help detect faults, optimise maintenance, measure energy use, and facilitate off-peak dimming in the future. The lights would also be able to accommodate future smart city sensors.
LED lamps use a fraction of the energy compared to older streetlights and are more cost effective, longer lasting, and easier to maintain.
We are proud of this major sustainability upgrade for Lane Cove.
