April Update

Over the past six months 17 speed humps have been installed in the Lane Cove North area including:

  • Gordon Crescent
  • Helen Street
  • Kullah Parade
  • Landers Road
  • Parklands Avenue

TfNSW has been reviewing each individual treatment plan for the continuous footpath treatments; raised pedestrian crossings; parking/travel lane changes; pedestrian refuges; and rumble strips.

Council is in the process of engaging contractors for the works which have initially been approved by TfNSW with the works anticipated to begin from mid to late May. Once dates for locations are confirmed, we will notify neighbouring residents two weeks prior to commencement.

The following works will be taking place before the end of the year:

  • Continuous footpath treatments on Willandra Street, Mindarie Street, Girraween Avenue at the intersection with Mowbray Road
  • Continuous footpath treatments on Elizabeth Parade, Arding Street, Canberra Street at the intersection with Centennial Avenue
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on Helen Street at Goodlet Reserve
  • 2 metre parking lanes and 3 metre travel lanes on Karilla Avenue between Centennial Avenue and Kurri Street to ensure Karilla Avenue appears narrow to reduce speed
  • A raised pedestrian crossing on Karilla Avenue at its intersection with Centennial Avenue and remove existing pedestrian refuge
  • Rumble strip on Karilla Avenue at the intersection with Kurri Street
  • Pedestrian refuge on Burley Street at the intersection with Pacific Highway
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on all approaches of the Mindarie Street/Kullah Parade/Hatfield Street intersection

While Council has approval to signpost the area 40km/h, this will only take place once the above works are all complete including associated linemarkings which is expected to be late 2025.

November 2024

Lane Cove North will soon become a 40km/h zone thanks to the installation of a suite of speed reduction treatments. With the exception of Mowbray Road, Pacific Highway and Epping Road, the treatments will create a safer place for our community, reduce rat-running, and promote walking and cycling.

Council has received Transport for NSW funding under the Safe Speeds in High Pedestrian Areas program, and will install a number of devices, including 17 speed humps and 8 intersection treatments, in a project that will transform walkability in the Lane Cove North.  Council received positive feedback from a majority of participants in its consultation proposing the changes earlier this year, and has begun installing speed humps in October 2024.

The below treatments will be completed over the coming months:

  • Continuous footpath treatments on Willandra Street, Mindarie Street, Girraween Avenue at the intersection with Mowbray Road;
  • Continuous footpath treatments on Elizabeth Parade, Arding Street, Canberra Street at the intersection with Centennial Avenue;
  • Speed humps along the local streets outlined in the locality plan;
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on Helen Street at Goodlet Reserve;
  • 2 metre parking lanes and 3 metre travel lanes on Karilla Avenue between Centennial Avenue and Kurri Street to ensure Karilla Avenue appears narrow to reduce speed;
  • A raised pedestrian crossing on Karilla Avenue at its intersection with Centennial Avenue and remove existing pedestrian refuge;
  • Rumble strip on Karilla Avenue at the intersection with Kurri Street;
  • Pedestrian refuge on Burley Street at the intersection with Pacific Highway;
  • Raised pedestrian crossing on all approaches of the Mindarie Street/Kullah Parade/Hatfield Street intersection;
  • All associated signage and line markings.
