Longueville Road
Published on 14 June 2024
Longueville Road between Little Street and Central Avenue is undergoing an upgrade.
Work has commenced on the upgrades that include milling and re-sheeting the road surface, the installation of two new speed humps to maintain slow traffic speeds in our high pedestrian area and line marking.
Council has noticed that there has been some confusion with the official crossing points on Longueville Road with the addition of the two new speed humps. Council will be installing some road safety stickers on the speed humps to remind pedestrians that they are not pedestrian crossings.
As part of the upgrade, a White Gum tree located at 139 Longueville Road will be removed due to structural defects including poor stem junction with weak attachment, cavity decay and fungal fruiting bodies. It has been deemed high risk through an industry accepted risk assessment evaluation. Retention options have been explored through selective pruning and internal diagnostics testing.
Our tree canopy is important, and Council replaces every tree removed with another one if the site allows, and wherever possible with more than one. Tree replacement will occur within the nearby vicinity where applicable to do so.
Council’s tree replenishment program is part of our Urban Forest Strategy which can be found on our website.
