This year Council will be coordinating three projects in the vicinity of Northwood and River Road to help improve safety and access.

Council has been successful in receiving NSW Government Black Spot funding to redesign the intersection at Northwood Road and River Road.

The aim is to make it safer for vehicles travelling around the bend on River Road/Northwood Road and exiting the Northwood Road into Northwood Road/River Road. The intersection will be reconfigured to improve visibility for all road users and prevent vehicles from losing control on the bend.

This project is in the detailed design stage and once a road safety audit is completed the design will be made available to the public.

These works will be complemented by new traffic lights which are to be installed at the entry to the new Sport and Recreation Centre on River Road. The tender process is almost complete which will assist in providing indicative timing for the construction of these lights.

In addition to providing entry/exit to the Centre, the traffic lights will improve pedestrian safety when crossing River Road. This will be further improved through the construction of stair access through the existing road reserve in Fleming Street. The steep terrain limits the design options for this stairway however neighbouring properties will soon receive notification of the proposed design.

Staff are working towards finalising the timeframes and providing an update of the more detailed design of these projects in the coming months.
