Recycle, Re-Use, Re-Home Event does Tonnes of Good
Lane Cove Council hosted the Recycle, Re-Use, Re-Home event at Blackman Park on Saturday, 8 February 2025. This initiative provided residents of Lane Cove and Hunters Hill with an opportunity to responsibly recycle and rehome various household items, including bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, textiles, bric-a-brac, and soft plastics.
We are thrilled with the community’s enthusiastic participation. At least 180 residents attended, recycling:
- 102 bikes and scooters
- 1,356 kg of clothing
- 440 kg of bric-a-brac
- 122 kg of soft plastics
Diverting more than 2 tonnes (2,000kg) of material from landfill.
This event was made possible through our collaboration with Revolve Recycling, who recycle and refurbish old bikes for resale, and Southern Cross Recycling, who provide the HomeCycle service and were responsible for sorting and redistributing collected items. For more information on the recycling process of the different items collected, see below.
To help our resident recycle well all year round, Lane Cove Council offers a number of services to recycle problem wastes and items not able to be recycled through your kerbside bins;
North Shore Community Recycling Centre (CRC)
Located at 8 Waltham Street, Artarmon, the CRC provides a facility for residents to drop off problem wastes that cannot be disposed of through regular kerbside collections. Accepted items include paints, oils, gas cylinders, batteries, and electronic waste. Textiles and clothing can also be dropped at the CRC for recycling. Check the website for operating hours and any current restrictions: https://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/waste-recycling/community-recycling-centre-crc
Recycling Trailer at The Canopy
Situated on Level P1 of The Canopy Carpark, the Recycling Trailer offers a convenient drop-off point for small quantities of electronic waste and clothing for recycling.
HomeCycle
The HomeCycle service allows residents to book collections for items that can’t be recycled through regular household bins. Accepted items include clothing (both wearable and non-wearable), soft plastics, batteries, and other tricky-to-recycle materials. Residents can easily book a collection, and items will be picked up directly from their doorstep.
These services aim to promote sustainable waste management practices within the community by providing accessible options for recycling and repurposing various materials.
This weekend - Rotary Car Boot Sale
Looking for a sustainable way to declutter? The Rotary Club of Lane Cove is hosting a Car Boot Sale on 9 March 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to give unwanted items a second life while supporting a local sustainability initiative. More details can be found here.
Lane Cove Council thanks all residents who participated in the Recycle, Re-Use, Re-Home event and encourages continued efforts toward a more sustainable community.
