The Federal election has been announced for Saturday 3 May 2025.

This election is administered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), not Lane Cove Council.

The AEC’s website has a range of useful information which continues to be updated. Once the locations of polling locations in the Lane Cove area are announced Council will include that information on this page.

Put our Communities First campaign

The Australian Local Government Association is calling for federal funding to local communities to be improved through its Put Our Communities First campaign.

Councils now receive around 50% of the level of Financial Assistance Grants they received 30 years ago! But your vote in the next federal election can help reverse this slide.

If the Commonwealth Government does not provide more funding to local governments, then your council rates will increase to pay for vital local services and facilities. It’s not cheap to implement big national priorities at the local level – and we need councils to get their fair share of funding support from the Commonwealth.

ALGA has identified areas where increased federal funding would put our communities first and at our March 2025 Council meeting we resolved to support this priorities, namely:

  • $1.1 billion per year for enabling infrastructure to unlock housing supply;
  • $500 million per year for community infrastructure,
  • $600 million per year for safer local roads, and
  • $900 million per year for increased local government emergency management capability and capacity.

There’s a lot you can do to support better funding that puts our communities first. Keep up-to-date with the issues your local political parties rally behind this federal election and help ensure that increasing funding for local government gets the attention it deserves. #putourcommunitiesfirst
