All planning and development in Lane Cove is guided by the State Government's Greater Sydney Region Plan and the North District Plan.

Council's Local Strategic Planning Statement outlines the 20 year vision, planning priorities and actions for land use in Lane Cove. This statement has been confirmed as consistent with State Government Plans and will inform future amendments to Council's Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan.

Council's Local Environmental Plan is a legal document which guides development through land use zoning, development standards and some site-specific provisions.

This is supported by a Development Control Plan which provides detailed development controls such as landscaped area, car spaces and building scale.
