Bike North

Bike North is a non-profit community based Bicycle User Group or BUG, affiliated with Bicycle NSW and Cycling NSW. It covers Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai, Willoughby, Lane Cove, North Sydney and Ryde council areas.  Bike North aims are to promote the use of bicycles, promote road safety education and advocate appropriate outcomes for cyclists in our area. The organisation:

  • Runs regular social rides where you can meet friends, exercise and have fun at the same time;
  • Plans and works with councils towards implementing their bicycle plans to get better cycling routes and facilities within and across our areas;
  • Raises problems or concerns about cycling with the relevant authorities;
  • Discusses all things to do with cycling and share our experiences.

Greenwich Community Association - Environmental Sustainability Sub-Committee

In February 2010 the Greenwich Community Association established its Environmental Sustainability Sub-Committee (“the ESS”).  The objectives of the ESS are to develop and implement projects consistent with the objects and rules of the Greenwich Community Association (“GCA”) to:

  1. Increase awareness in the community of  ways to support environmental sustainability at the individual and household level.
  2. Promote environmental  sustainability.
  3. Progress environmental sustainability opportunities relevant to the community.
  4. Identify projects, through community consultation, in which members of the community will be interested in participating.

The ESS has begun working on its first task: to engage the local community in the development of an environmental sustainability plan that will improve the environment of Greenwich, and achieve an increase in household adoption and support of sustainable practices and behaviours.

Lane Cove Bushland and Conservation Society

The Lane Cove Bushland and Conservation Society is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation, established in 1971 to advocate for Lane Cove bushland and broader environmental issues. It is one of Sydney's earliest environmental organisations.

Since 1971 the Society has successfully represented the local environment in the decision-making process, liaising with Lane Cove Council on a range of developments and bushland management, and also on wider issues raised by State and Federal governments.

The Society holds monthly meetings (2nd Tuesday of every month), advocates on various environmental issues, organises native plant stalls, distributes information on various topics of interest and conducts bushwalks.

The Society and Lane Cove Council work together to provide the popular Lane Cove Bush Kids program to the community.  The program promotes a love of our natural environment to the next generation.

Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group

The LCSAG is an incorporated community group committed to improving the local area in the face of climate change. The group has grown out of a movement spreading across Sydney where local people feel compelled to take personal action against the growing threat of climate change. LCSAG is a watchdog for local sustainability issues: bush biodiversity, public transport, healthy lifestyles, general minimising of consumption and recycling. Visit their website to find out more.

Permaculture Sydney North - Lane Cove

Permaculture Sydney North is a rapidly-growing group of over 400 members in the north of Sydney. As the group grew larger, local groups were also set up. The Lane Cove group is a dynamic and diverse group of people, interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle. It meets at 2pm on the second Saturday of every month, holds working and craft bees, swaps seedlings, produce etc. and shares ideas. Our dream is eating local and our passion is eating well! Repair Café

A group of Lane Cove residents have initiated a Repair Café to help address the growing amount of useable items going to landfill. The volunteers want to pass on practical skills and experience to others to ensure that things are used for longer, whilst also showing how satisfying, fun, and often easy, it can be to repair something. 

Volunteers will help you fix the following: jewellery, ceramics, shoes, toys, clothes, zips, bags, as well as sharpening kitchen knives, secateurs and pruning tools; small woodwork repairs, household battery-operated items.

The Lane Cove Repair Cafe is located at the Living and Learning Centre - 180 Longueville Road, Lane Cove.  It's open the first two Sundays of the month from 2pm to 4pm.
