Electrification Project

An Australia powered by safe, clean renewable energy for a bright future. 

Electrification – and Lane Cove locals – are key to achieving this goal. 

Councils across Australia have developed an Action Plan template to help everyone get started. The Sustainability Collective have started spreading the word. 

Targets

Firstly, where are we now as we work towards electrification?

• 22.7% of dwellings with solar panels (Australian Photovoltaic Institute • Mapping Australian Photovoltaic installations (apvi.org.au).
• 714 all-electric vehicles in Lane Cove LGA (31 March 2024, Registration snapshot report | Transport for NSW).
• There is little data on the uptake of solar batteries, GreenPower, e-bikes, electric cooking, air-conditioning and water heating. 

The Sustainability Collective aims to gather baseline data on electrification and has set a SMART target for 20% of dwellings to be all electric and 50% upgraded at least one mode to electric by 2026.

• Electrify Everything Survey- take our survey to find out how we can help you to electrify!
• Solar Presentations - members of the Group have presented on their learnings and experience from installing solar on their own homes at the Sustainability Lane event in 2023 and the Solar Made Simple event held in March 2024.
• Induction Cooking- the Sustainability Collective cooked over 100 bags of popcorn on an induction cooktop power by solar panels at Sustainability Lane 2023. Just like we did, you can borrow an induction cooktop from the Sydney Library of Things to try before you buy.
