Military History Talk – Sudan 1885: The NSW contingent

In 1885 New South Wales sent a contingent of 770 men and 200 horses to the Sudan to assist the British in the Mahdist War (made famous by Britain’s General Gordon). The men would go on to fight in the Suakin campaign. The campaign was the first military campaign to be raised and deployed overseas by an Australian colony.
